Google Alerts

Hi guys & girls, I’ve been experimenting a lot with Twitter and building followers legitimately, (non of these Follower Scripts or Follow Me Follow You Services.)

Quite Often it is difficult to think of anything useful to tweet, and more often than not it is better not to tweet than to tweet this first thing that pops into your head. I have been looking at good ways of finding useful blogs, sites & content to tweet about. Then I remembered “Google Alerts”…

Google Alerts

For those of you who dont know what Google Alerts is, visit the Google Website for more information.. ( When Tweeting & Blogging it is important that you are one of the first people to mention a certain subject, staying “in the know” is essential as it will give your credibility and make your tweets a useful source of information for others. Google Alerts is a great way of finding out information, breaking news articles, brand new blog posts etc…

The Technique

To begin with you need to choose your subject, in my case I have chosen to centre my Blogging & Tweeting around two main categories 1) The Web Industry & 2) Epilepsy (my son has Epilepsy). Once you know what you want to tweet about you then need to produce a list of “Keywords”. These should be related to your topic, for example:

The Web Industry:

  1. Web Design
  2. Search Engine Marketing
  3. Pay Per Click Advertising
  4. Search Engine Optimisation

You get the idea…

Next you need to log into Google Alerts using your Google Account, (create one if you don’t have one). You will be presented with this screen:

Google Alerts

It is pretty self explanatory from here, you fillout the “Search Terms” box with your keywords, select the type of alert you want, you then choose how often you receive the alerts, these are set up to be delivered to a chosen email address.

Once you have set up your alerts you are able to manage them on the next screen…

Google Alerts

Once you have a few alerts set up, you will soon start receiving up to date “Alerts” about your chosen subject, you should be selective on what you Tweet about as this technique can produce alot of spam in your mail box, however if you give it a go and stick it out, you will find the odd “gem” which will bring you a lot of followers.

Give it a try… and best of luck…
