Well, it’s New Years Eve 2016 and I thought it might be a good time to reflect on how 2016 went for me and TWDG Ltd, what a year! 2016 proved to be a very busy year for us all at The Web Design Group, we have seen steady growth throughout the year and as it draws to a close I am relatively happy with how 2016 panned out.
In January 2016 we moved out of our offices in Ilkeston in our push to grow the business and move into the Nottingham arena. We moved into our new home in the NBV Enterprise Centre in Basford and it has proven to be a great move.
My new website launched in February 2016 which helped improve the conversion rate of the visitors I was getting to the site, the improved design and feel of the site seems to have helped with our enquiries. I still rank very well for the SEO related terms in the Derby area as well.
Expanding The Team
Early in the year myself and my business partner Matt realised that we needed to grow the team and began the search for a new Head of SEO to help push us forward and free up some of our time to focus on growth. It took us nearly 6 months to find somebody in the end, i even wrote a blog post about how difficult it has been to find anybody of real talent!
We finally found our man, Adam Vowles joined the team in July. Adam is a highly experienced SEO specialist and has really helped push our SEO forward.
There was also the uncertainty of the BREXIT vote on 23rd of June, we were unsure of how this would effect us and out clients, thankfully nothing seems to have really changed as of yet, due to the fact that article 50 hasn’t yet been triggered. We haven’t left the EU yet but I’m sure 2017 is going to be very different in this regard.
Partnership With Nottingham Business School
In November, The Web Design Group was appointed as an “industry partner” to the ingenuity lab at the Nottingham University Business School. In 2017 we are going to be running workshops for the business graduates and providing helpful tips and advice via 1 to 1 mentoring sessions with new business owners, this is potentially huge for us!
Here is a taste of they type of session we will be running, below are two videos of Adam delivering a presentation about SEO.

We have also decided to re-brand the business in the New Year, The Web Design Group name has served us well for the past 5 years, but as we have grown as a business and diversified we have moved away from the “web design” element of the industry and have become a multi discipline digital agency in our own right. We felt the name didn’t effectively reflect this, keep an eye out for an official blog post introducing our new look brand and company name… Watch this space!
We have had a very busy year, this is a small sample of things which have happened, I would like to take this opportunity to thank our existing clients or new clients that came on-board in 2016 and our staff for their hard work and dedication.
Looking forward to 2017,
